Understanding the effect of food web dynamics on biogeochemical cycles is the key issue of the international Integrated Marine Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research program. The subjects developed in my research are central to this goal, dealing with the production and transfer of matter across oceanic interfaces.
MY SCIENTIFIC GOALS
As I am expecting broader spatial and longer temporal
coverage of plankton by new imaging technologies from
current and future surveys and monitoring programs,
there are urgent needs for integrating field surveys,
laboratory experiments and models, in addition to
developing methods for analyzing distributions and
process rates of aquatic organisms. In the future, I will therefore focus on the acquisition and use of such data to constrain mechanistic models, initially and then ecosystem models.
